This working man is something special! Peter Hornskov is the craftsman behind the hat-brand Hornskov København. He hand makes his hats in the best material and with a lot of passion. Every detail is well taken care of and if you need inspiration on how to wear a hat; just look at the designer himself. Whether or not you are into hats, Peter and his brand is worth knowing…
Who are you designing for?
Anybody, really. I have made hats for farmers from Sønderjylland, musicians from New York and even a banker from Chicago. What they all have in common is that they care about quality and timeless design.
What is your brands strongest qualities?
We take pride in delivering a service that is very rarely seen nowadays, the custom made hat. Tailored to the individual customer and handmade from the finest materials using the traditional methods of hat making to reach the highest level of quality.
Describe the man you see wearing your hats.
I really like making hats for men with lots of personality. I really enjoy working their personality into the hat, so the more personality, the more I have to work with. That being said, most of my hats are classically inspired, so any man who likes to wear a suit every now and then, I can see wearing one of my hats.
Witch movie-character would wear your hats?
If your brand was a car, what model would it be and why?
If Hornskov København was a car, it would definitely be a Rolls Royce Phantom from the 1920s, simply because of its class.
Why not? I have always been a hat person, ever since I dressed up as a cowboy in kindergarten. I just think there’s something special about hats and how easily they can transform your look.
If you had not become a hat designer, what would you be?
How does your profession affect your way of dressing?
I my case it is probably the other way around. The way I dress and what I like to wear is in many ways what is driving me to do what I do. But I think ultimately it goes really well hand in hand.
If you could pick any man in the whole world, who would you like to represent your brand?
Easy, Harrison Ford.
Who’s your muse and why?
That’s a tough question, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Cody Wellema, a hat maker from California. I don’t know if I would call him my muse, but I absolutely love what he’s doing.
Which brands besides your own do you usually wear?
Nothing in particular really. I like finding nice vintage pieces in thrift shops or online.
How much time do you spend on grooming yourself in the morning?
I would say about five minutes, but if you ask my wife she’d say an hour.
Your “can’t-live-without”-grooming product?
My moustache wax.
How is your grooming routine?
When I get out of the shower I blow dry my hair and my moustache. I then heat up my moustache wax with the blowdryer, get a little between my index fingers and my thumbs, gently applying the wax to my moustache, while giving it a twirl. I finish by using a small comb to manage any stray hairs.
How do you drink your coffee?
Your signature drink/cocktail?
How do you eat your steak?
I don’t. Trying to do mine to save the planet.
